Hello Northwood Family and Friends.
The district implemented a temporary mask mandate that began today.
Part of this mandate requires spectators to be masked during sporting events. There is not a limit on the number of spectators per athlete at this time. We are requiring that each spectator wear a mask and physical distance a minimum of 3 feet between spectators unless they are direct family. Please bring your own mask.
The Scholastic Book Fair is OPEN today through Friday, Nov. 12. Again, the book fair will only be open to students to shop with their classes. Please contact your child's teacher about their shopping day.
Here is a tutorial of an easy way for your to set up an eWallet for your student, so you will not have to send them with money to school if you choose not to do so: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dIm0E4SvELbWb9KUjmSGp6i6-nN9oVj5/view?usp=sharing . Hello Northwood School Families,
Due to the high number of positive COVID cases over the last days, close contact quarantines, and student absence list within our school, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close school to students beginning Tuesday, November 2.
We will be closed to students this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Friday is already closed due to parent/teacher conferences. Staff will be reporting to school on these days. Games and practices will be suspended for the remainder of the week.
Stay safe and healthy!
In attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep our schools open, we asking every family to partner with the school district for our “Mask Up, Cases Down” initiative that we are beginning this week. This Northwood School District initiative is not a mask mandate but rather an effort to strongly encourage mask wearing by all those that are physically able over the next two weeks. There are various reasons we are asking for your help during this initiative by encouraging your child to mask during this challenging time:
• Keeping our students safe is one of our top priorities.
• Students benefit from in-person learning so we need to keep our cases down to keep our schools open.
• Due to the recent upswing in the highly contagious Delta variant cases, our local counties are recommending that our district consider masking for 2 weeks.
• Our District can reduce or eliminate quarantine for students that are masked and 3 feet apart. Due to absence of universal masking, we are currently putting entire elementary classes in quarantine and contact tracing at the middle and high school using 6 feet of the case for 15 minutes.
• Students under the age of 12 are not eligible for vaccination at this time but the emergency authorization process in progressing.
Events for the upcoming week that are modified or postponed due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in our district and the local region.
• Tuesday, October 2nd, the Fall Sports Awards Night is postponed.
• The middle school dance that was rescheduled for Wednesday, October 3rd will postponed and rescheduled again to a date to be announced in the near future.
• Parent Teacher Conferences on October 4th and 5th will be held virtually (phone, email, video conferencing, etc.). More information will be sent out soon.
• Thursday, October 4th, the home Middle School Basketball game is still scheduled but masks, social distancing, and/or limited attendees may be recommended.
Happy Halloween from the Northwood School District. Have a super fun and safe Halloween!
